State research checklist for new homeschoolers

Use this checklist with your state's official education website. Write down where you found each answer and the date you checked. 1. What legal options does my state offer for homeschooling? 2. At what ages does compulsory attendance apply? 3. Do I need to notify anyone, register, or get approval? If so, who, how, and by when? 4. If my child is in public school now, how do I withdraw? 5. Which subjects, if any, are required? 6. Are there required days, hours, or records? 7. Is testing or evaluation required? At what grades? 8. What are the rules for high school records and diplomas? 9. Who can I contact at the state or district with questions? If you can't find an answer, write "not found yet" — not "not required." Ask the responsible agency to confirm.
