Family market project
Kids plan, price, and run a small pretend or real market.
Learning in Real Life
Ages 6–14
6 minThis project mixes math, writing, and planning.
1. Choose a product: baked goods, crafts, seed packets, or pretend items for younger kids.
2. Plan costs: list materials and their prices. Older kids can calculate cost per item.
3. Set a price: discuss what's fair and what covers costs.
4. Make a sign: practice persuasive writing and neat lettering.
5. Run the market: at home with family, or at an approved community event.
6. Reflect: How many sold? What was the profit? What would you change?
Adapt it: younger children can count coins and sort items; teens can make a simple budget spreadsheet.
